Financial institutions' planning and strategy

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have developed an understanding of the need for, and the materials of, strategic planning, analysis, evaluation and implementation relevant to financial institutions; awareness of the major strategic issues confronting financial institutions in the current environment.

Synopsis Topics include the nature and importance of strategic planning and strategic management; the strategic planning process and thinking strategically; identifying missions, values and strategy; strategic analysis - the external environment; strategic analysis - the internal environment; strategy formulation - corporate strategy alternatives; strategy formulation - competitive strategy alternatives; choosing strategic alternatives; strategy implementation, review, assessment and control; issues in international business; strategic issues for financial institutions.

Assessment Class participation: 5% · Syndicate assignment: 35% · Examination (3 hours): 60%
