Objectives To enable students to understand and analyse contemporary social policy issues, understand the links between policy and social work practice, and apply this analysis to major social policy fields.

Synopsis Defining social policy and understanding the Australian community to which it applies; history of social policy in Australia; the state of policy in various fields including the study of political party policies, poverty, redistribution, health, women's policy issues and child welfare.

Assessment Assignment plan (1000 words): 30% - Written assignment (2000 words): 70%
