Objectives This subject should enable students to develop an understanding of the practical principles of publishing, and of the key dimensions of professional skill inherent in the editing and preparation of texts for publication. Students will gain an understanding of how text preparation can differ for the various forms of publishing, eg journals, magazines and scholarly publishing.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide an overview of the role of and the relationships between author, editor and designer in publishing. Students will be taken through the processes involved in the transmission of a text from manuscript to edited form.

Assessment Practical exercises: 20% -Two assignments (2000 words each): 50% -Class participation and presentation: 10% -Examination (1 hour): 20%
