Objectives As for PLT2490 with the additional objective of students developing some familiarity with the major theories attempting to explain persistent political instability, conflict and authoritarianism in the region.

Synopsis As for PLT2490.

Assessment Essay (3000 words): 40% - Tutorial presentation and participation: 10% - Examination (3 hours): 50% - Third-year students will be required to answer at least one specified exam essay topic in which they are expected to demonstrate greater conceptual depth and grasp of the subject.
