Objectives Students succesfully completing this subject will have demonstrated a mastery of scholarly conventions and protocol; an ability to argue a complex case; an ability to write clearly and concisely; a detailed graps of a particular area of philosophical concern.

Synopsis This subject is intended to give students their first experience of a substanial supervised research project. The recommended length is 12,000 words. Students should expect to meet regularly with their supervisor throughout the year.

Assessment Written (12,000 words) on an approved topic of the candidate's own choice: 100% -Two copies of the research project must be submitted in typescript and suitably presented by an agreed date in mid-October (if taken as a first semester or all-year subject) or mid-June (if taken as a second semester subject).
