Performance studies: early music ensemble

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to direct a small ensemble from score to performance and have absorbed appropriate participatory ensemble behaviour for both rehearsal and performance environments.

Synopsis The subject is designed to provide an overview of the early music repertoire for study, listening and performance. It aims to foster an understanding of some of the issues and problems within the early music repertoire. It provides the foundation for an early music ensemble which functions simultaneously as a course for credit, a performance laboratory for a musicology curriculum, and an extracurricular activity.

Assessment Written (assignments 1500 words): 40% Examination (1hour): 20% Performance: 40%
