Objectives By the end of the semester, students should have attained a critical understanding of various music education methodologies, including the underlying philosophy and intention, historical development and current usage of each; developed the ability to analyse and write critically on various modes of music learning, with attention to improvisation vs re-creation, instrumental vs vocal musicmaking, holistic vs linear teaching; and demonstrated practical teaching skills by either (a) orally presenting music education concepts and/or knowledge to their fellow students or (b) presenting written work such as is required of music education professionals.

Synopsis The history, philosophy, psychology and critical study of all levels of music education. Topics include course and curricula development and modes and transmission of learning music and dance across the cultures, with particular focus on the Australian scene.

Assessment Written (6000 words): 50% -2 Assignments (1000 words each): 25% each.
