Twentieth-century compositional techniques

Objectives By the end of the semester, students undertaking the unit should have a basic historical knowledge and analytical and compositional experience of some of the major compositional techniques used in the twentieth century.

Synopsis Students are required to study twentieth-century compositional techniques through the analysis of relevant works and through composition exercises. Students will also learn about the compositional use of music technology through supervised and independent work in the department's music studios.

Assessment Written work (2000 words): 20% -Notated work (4000 words equivalent): 40% -Studio project (3000 words equivalent): 40%
