Objectives The aim of the dissertation is to train students to design and develop an independent research project and to carry out specific research which should include the use of primary source material and to write up the dissertation in the scholarly form outlined by the Koorie Research Centre.

Synopsis Combined honours may be taken with another discipline provided that all Honours requirements have been met in both disciplines and subject to the approval of the heads of both centres/departments. Candidates should complete a dissertation of between 12,000 words and 15,000 words which constitutes an original contribution to the chosen field of research. Prospective honours students should consult Dr Liz Reed in their third year, between October and early December, to have their thesis topic approved and for details of supervision to be worked out. Students are expected to begin their research during the long vacation. The date by which the dissertation is due is Friday 29 October.
