Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should be able to comprehend written Japanese presented in a journalistic style, comprehend Japanese television programs, and read authentic materials selected from Japanese books and newspapers using bilingual dictionaries.

Synopsis This is an advanced level of spoken and written Japanese which is designed to bring the student close to semi-native competence in the language. This subject consists of two components - newspaper Japanese, and video and discussion.

Assessment Newspaper Japanese (tests 40%, performance activities 10%): 50% - Video and discussion (tests 10%, performance activities 10%, assignments 10%, essay - 2000 characters in Japanese 20%): 50%
