Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should be able to express their preferences regarding free time activities and hobbies giving reasons; make requests and ask permission; give advice and make suggestions; make and respond to invitations; use appropriate etiquette in guest-host situations; use the conversation strategies of asking for clarification and reporting hearsay information; write a short letter in Japanese using the correct format; recognise an additional 170 kanji (in total 300); recognise basic kanji radicals and use a kanji dictionary.
Synopsis This subject aims to consolidate and further develop students' knowledge of Japanese in order to achieve pre-intermediate competence in spoken and written Japanese.
Assessment Mid-semester test (1 hour): 25% - Final examination (2 hours): 30% - Speaking test: 10% - Listening comprehension test: 10% - Ongoing assessment: 25%
