Japanese systematic grammar

8 or 12 points -2 hours per week -First semester -Clayton -Prerequisites: Monash post-level E Japanese or equivalent

Objectives Upon completion of this subject, students should be able to view Japanese grammar from the perspective of Japanese as a target language; analyse learners' product critically; understand learners' problems; provide suitable solutions and find necessary references.

Synopsis This subject deals with selected topics in Japanese grammar which are of particular importance to teaching Japanese as a foreign language. It aims at providing students with opportunities to gain a better understanding of Japanese grammar through reading, exercises (including error analysis) and discussion. Lectures and seminars will be conducted in Japanese and English.

Assessment (8 points) Fortnightly assignments (1000 words): 20% -Seminar presentation (1000 words): 20% -Essay (2500 words): 30% -Test (1.5 hours): 30%
Assessment (12 points) Fortnightly assignments (1500 words): 20% -Seminar presentation (2000 words): 20% -Essay (3500 words): 30% -Test (2 hours): 30%
