Objectives Students should become familiar with issues pertaining to the acquisition of Japanese as a second language and with research methods.

Synopsis This subject explores the process of how Japanese is acquired as a second or foreign language and the factors affecting acquisition. It focuses on such issues as reading development, language distance, and developmental processes, transfer, pragmatics, and input and interaction. It also covers the first language acquisition of Japanese and methodology employed in studying Japanese language acquisition.
