Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should have obtained an understanding of the main features of German and Austrian literary and cultural life in the period, and a detailed knowledge of key texts reflecting the social, political, intellectual and historical developments of the time.

Synopsis As for GRN 2245. A study of German literature and society from unification to the First World War.

Assessment Written (4000 words): 70% - Examinations (1 hour): 30%
