Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should have obtained an understanding of the main features of German and Austrian literary and cultural life in the period, and a detailed knowledge of key texts reflecting the social, intellectual and historical developments of the time.

Synopsis A study of German literature and society from unification to the First World War.
