8 points - 3 hours per week - First semester - Clayton - Prerequisites: A first-year course at level GRN1215 or higher - Corequisites: A second-year language course at level GRN2315 or higher

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have gained a raised awareness of different discourse types, basic proficiency in the linguistic register of German as it is used in business and trade; with special emphasis on the consolidation and development of speaking and reading skills as well as the conventions of the German business world and business correspondence.

Synopsis This subject serves as a corollary to the language and culture core subjects offered by the department at first and second-year levels. It provides students with basic proficiency in the linguistic register of German as it is used in business and trade, It complements material introduced in the core units and provides also an introduction to GRN3185/GRN4185.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 40% - Class paper: 30% - Examination (1 hour): 30%
