Objectives Upon completion of this course and GNM4625, students should have such an excellent command of German grammar that they no longer make basic errors, and only very few errors in advanced constructions; be able to discuss, both in written and spoken form, most topics of general nature, and those specialist topics related to their own fields of interest; be able to read German texts on any subject; be able to understand with ease television and radio broadcasts on most subjects; be able to translate from German complicated texts on any subject, and from English texts related to their own fields of interest; be able to understand non-standard language containing elements of regional speech and/or dialect.
Synopsis The purpose of this subject is to extend students' ability to write and speak German at an advanced level. A thorough knowledge of German grammar is assumed; grammar topics will be discussed as the need arises. Work for the subject will encompass a variety of text and exercise types and will aim to develop proficiency in a range of registers.
Assessment Written (3000 words): 70% -Examination (1.5 hours): 30%
