Objectives As for FRN3150 with the additional objective of developing a critical awareness of connections and differences between various inidividual critics and philosophers and schools of thought that will students not only to understand the theoretical debate this implies but to establish and defend their own position in this debate.

Synopsis Study of the analytic tools required for an effective interpretation of literary and other texts. Text production, textual strategies and text reception will be the main areas covered.

Assessment Two seminar presentations (1000 words each): 30% - Two essays (2000 words each): 70% - In addition, fourth-year students will be expected to read more extensively and independently in primary and/or secondary literature and will write essays requiring more analytical/theoretical discussion.
