Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to plan and perform environmental research both individually and in an interdisciplinary team, specifically to define an appropriate research topic, develop an appropriate methodology to address it, access data from a variety of sources, describe the results of their research and critically evaluate them, analyse the systems and constructs pertinent to environmental problems and their solution, produce an interdisciplinary environmental report and a paper on individual research arising from a team project. They should also be able to function more effectively in a multidisciplinary team through understanding the processes of team management, comprehending the perspectives that different disciplines bring to the analysis of environmental issues and communicating more effectively with graduates in a range of disciplines.

Synopsis The research project is closely linked with ENV403C (Interdisciplinary team research) and involves the full development of team research commenced in that subject. Individual candidates will then perform research on a topic arising from that team project. Attendance at lectures and workshops which introduce students to the process of applying systems thinking to their projects and attendance at Environmental forum is also required.

Assessment Team report (3000 words per student): 35% -Individual research paper (9000 words): 60% -Seminar presentation: 5%
