Objectives On completion of this course students should have acquired an appropriate understanding of topics in the contemporary analysis of performance; developed the ability to write and discuss performance studies at an advanced level as well as to initiate and carry out research projects in the area; and understood some of the ways in which performance can make use of theory and vice versa.
Synopsis The focus of this subject will be on twentieth-century approaches, including semiotics, theatre anthropology, feminist theory and methods of performance analysis. It will be taught by a number of members of the staff of the centre, and will involve the study of theoretical texts as outlined in the subject material available from the centre.
Assessment Essay (5000 words): 50% - Essay (2000 words) 25% - Seminar paper and participation (equivalent to 2000 words): 25%
