Introduction to cultural studies II

Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to understand aspects of contested sites of popular culture and show competence in the critical analysis of culture.

Synopsis This subject will examine popular culture including advertising, fashion, shopping malls, television programming and mass entertainment. Emphasis will be given to understanding the nature of contemporary Australian society drawing on such diverse materials as representations of Australia in blockbuster films, news reportage on television, and the ordinary practices of everyday life.

Assessment Essay (2000 words): 40% - Examination (2 hours): 40% - Tutorial work : 20%
