Objectives On successful completion of both parts one and two (CHI4480) students should have developed the ability to speak Mandarin fluently and accurately; the ability to transcribe Chinese characters in pinyin; the oral/aural ability for formal and informal modes of communication across a range of social and business contexts; the ability to write formal correspondence using appropriate business vocabulary; a knowledge of mainland Chinese business practices.
Synopsis (1) Phonetic system and phonology; (2) the pinyin romanisation system; (3) the simplified character system.
Assessment Weekly oral/aural exercises: 40% -Written examination: 30% -Oral examination: 30%
