Objectives As for CHC2590 with the additional objectives that students completing the course should be aware of all the aspects of the evolution of Judaism at this crucial point of its development. They should also be sympathetic in a sophisticated sense to the development of belief systems and to the conflict inherent in the clash of cultures. The course aims to achieve a greater degree of methodological sophistication in the analysis of these issues than is achieved at second year.

Assessment Tutorial paper (1000 words): 20% - Essay (3000 words): 30% - Examination (2 hours): 50% - A wider reading of both modern critical works and relevant primary sources is expected to be demonstrated.
