Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should have developed the oral/aural skills necessary for verbal communication in a range of social and business situations; further developed the ability to read vernacular texts; developed the ability to read basic business and general correspondence with the aid of a dictionary; developed a range of vocabulary relevant to trade and commerce; gained some knowledge of business practices in mainland China today and their cultural/political context; gained an understanding of some current issues in China and their cultural/ political context.
Synopsis Advanced intermediate level spoken and written modern standard Chinese; an introduction to formal written language and specialised vocabulary relevant to the business context; readings on Chinese business ethics and business protocol. Regular classroom activities will be supplemented through use of audio/visual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills. The subject continues work covered in CBL2310
Assessment Written home assignments: 20% - Monthly diary: 5% Oral presentations: 15% - End-of-semester oral test: 10% - Written exam: 50%
