Intermediate business Chinese, part 1

8 points - 5 hours per week - First semester - Peninsula - Prerequisites: CBL1120

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should have further developed oral/aural skills for use in everyday, practical situations; developed skills to read simplified materials; developed the ability to write general letters requesting information; be introduced to some basic vocabulary useful in business situations; developed a basic understanding of current affairs in China.

Synopsis Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs. Regular classroom activities will be suplemented through use of audio/visual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills.

Assessment Weekly homework exercises: 10% - Monthly diary: 5% Speaking/oral presentation in class: 10% - Performance in tutorials: 5% - Oral test: 15% - Written tests (2 mid-semester tests) 10% Final exam: 40% - Regular short dictation: 5%
