Visual arts studio 4

12 points - 8 studio hours and 16 independent study hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield, Gippsland, and Peninsula campuses - Prerequisite: VIS2103

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to express analytically and critically, in oral and written form, associations and differences between their own work and the work of other artists who have worked or are working within a similar tradition or theme; have made further investigation regarding the specific themes and subject matter they are pursuing in their art practice; have further connected the formal, technical and conceptual relationships of their work; have increased their ability to work independently by setting their own specific goals within their research.

Synopsis Students are expected to consolidate and explore specific themes and subject matter evident within their work, in relation to the cultures and traditions in which these themes already exist. Initially this investigation will comprise of research into the conceptual, formal and technical aspects of the work of a number of appropriate artists. As well as producing a folio of work, students will be expected to keep a journal which documents in visual and written form their investigations, research and progress and actively participate in tutorial discussions and critiques. Studio practice may be undertaken in complementary areas such as painting, photography and sculpture.
