Project planning and research for interior architecture

3 points - 6 hours per week, including 2 taught hours and 4 independent study hours - First semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: IAR3105 - Corequisites: IAR3106

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to analyse the issues in a range of interior architecture projects; identify key issues/options that are likely to affect the outcome of the project; develop strategies for undertaking research and design for projects; select appropriate research methods; select appropriate design and communication methods; undertake computer-based scheduling of the management of the design project and its implementation.

Synopsis This subject investigates project and research management strategies. Topics include research methods and their application, the range of interior architecture (research) issues, users, clients, technology, regulations, sites, environment and ecology/heritage. The range of project management issues, contracts - contract law, contract administration, tendering and negotiation, planning authority approvals, cost planning, staff resource allocation, costing, budget planning. Computer-based construction schedules and resource allocation, time schedules, critical path networks for sub-projects with multi-activities.
