Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should understand the issues of ethics and morality specifically related to the art and design professions; be familiar with commercial and contract law, with specific emphasis on design-related issues such as intellectual property, copyright, plagiarism, design registration, patents and indigenous Australian images; have an understanding of management skills; have an understanding of grant application procedures and requirements; have an understanding of the relevant government workplace legislation.
Synopsis This subject examines professional practice within the art and design industries and cultures. Students are introduced to the relevant legal, ethical and moral issues effecting their profession. In addition to social and philosophical concerns, practical issues such as business methods of art and design, time and people management, publicity, grant application and occupational health and safety legislation are also discussed. A range of representatives from relevant professional associations speak about their particular areas of concern and interest, providing students with a forum of discussion with experts in the field.
