Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should demonstrate practical and critical understanding of at least one specialised photographic genre, which may extend to installation practice or digital interfaces; be able to apply photographic processes, techniques and images to a major project; be able to develop through consultation, a major project which demonstrates the experimentation of photographic media and associated concepts; critically appreciate the values surrounding a distinctive signature in the medium; have critical insight into the conceptual and professional demands of contemporary practice and its discourses.

Synopsis This subject focuses on the production of a major project which demonstrates a critical and topical engagement within a contemporary art and design context. Students pursue photography as a specialised discipline or as an applied discipline, through an interdisciplinary approach with other studio areas. Students are encouraged to develop a topical major project which would direct the orientation of the unit; ie thematic group exhibition or installation 'cross-over' projects with other studio areas such as graphic design, fine art, illustration, advertising, history and theory, or multimedia. Students are involved in the ongoing critique, analysis and assessment of the project.
