3 points - 6 hours per week, including one 1-hour lecture and 2 studio hours and 3 independent study hours - First semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: None

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should appreciate engineering drawing as a communication system; be able to model design concepts by means of formal engineering drawing; be able to apply appropriate drawing and dimensional conventions in accordance with Australian Standards AS1100 at a basic level.

Synopsis This subject establishes the principles of formal engineering and geometrical drawing. Topics include equipment and materials, line types, drawing notional elements, projecting and sectioning, presentation principles and an introduction to dimensioning and tolerancing.

Assessment Class exercises: 50% - Final examination: 50%
