3 points - 6 hours per week, including 3 studio hours and 3 hours independent study - Second semester - Caulfield - Prerequisite: DWG1301

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should draw to build ideas and show salient features of an intended design rather than a pre-existing object; appreciate drawing as a method of externalising thoughts and developing ideas; communicate their ideas through concept presentation sketches and renderings; use drawing for persuasion and communication in a product design context; demonstrate proficiency in the use of appropriate drawing mediums and equipment; understand the range of drawing mediums and select appropriate techniques to suit the nature of the design or the communicative purpose.

Synopsis Through demonstrations and drawing exercises, this subject covers freehand perspective product drawing and an introduction to product design presentation techniques including sketching and construction, axis of space, ellipses, contour lines, product features, proportion, scale, overlapping, formal and estimated perspective, light and shade, an introduction to marker pen techniques, materials and equipment.

Assessment Regular exercises: 70% - Visual diary: 30%
