Industrial experience

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have an experiential understanding of the operation of a professional design office; have knowledge and experience in the operation of design offices; have knowledge and experience in the management of design projects; have knowledge and experience in the design processes used in commercial offices.

Synopsis A period of approved industrial placement normally of six weeks duration in an interior architecture or design practice. Students are required to find this placement. Normally taken no earlier than the end of the third year and preferably before the commencement of the fourth year. In many instances students will use the contacts they develop in this subject to help identify an honours project topic to be taken as a cooperative venture with the design office.

Assessment Students undertake assessment in consultation with staff of the practice. It is based on review of a log book and the satisfactory completion of the tasks documented in it. Pass grade only available.
