Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have basic skills in several printmaking techniques; appreciate the concept of a formal language of and techniques of the print image including composition and the use of line; have emerging skills in the perceptual analysis of objects; understand and practice the principles of occupational health and safety practices in the studio.

Synopsis This subject introduces students to a range of procedures and techniques through set projects. Although conceptual, aesthetic and theoretical concerns are addressed, this subject primarily focuses on developing students' technical skills. A formal language of printmaking is also introduced including line, tone and composition. Teaching is by group and individual tuition. Health and safety procedures are taught and practiced in the printmaking studios.
