Drawing 4A (applied arts)

6 points - 3 studio hours and 9 independent study hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: DWG1101 and DWG1102

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have an enhanced ability to record invented shapes, forms and concepts; have knowledge of a larger range of drawing materials, including those involving the use of colour; be able to re-interpret and convert visual material through drawing and apply these skills to their major area of study; possess greater understanding of the philosophical, theoretical and aesthetic ideas that determine the use of imagery in applied arts objects; be capable of making discerning and critical judgements about their own developing personal imagery and demonstrate through oral presentations in individual and group critiques.

Synopsis Extending previously acquired knowledge in the range of materials and techniques available to applied arts students, this subject assists students in defining the concept of a personal visual language, viewing its expression in contemporary and historical contexts. Studies include shape and form invention, expressive emphasis, concept communication and decoration within two and three-dimensional formats.

Assessment Folio: 70% - Projects: 30%
