Drawing 3A (applied arts)

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should possess greater capacity in drawing the human figure in a variety of poses and situations; have a basic understanding of human anatomy and how this knowledge can be enhanced by perceptual and structural analysis; have an increased awareness of and skill in applying line and tone to the visual description of human forms and their relative spatial positions; be able to use an extended range of drawing materials in recording the human figure; with increasing confidence be able to consider and define, through drawing, the purpose and use of the human figure in applied art objects.

Synopsis This subject further develops the analytical, observational and conceptual skills prefaced in previous drawing units with specific reference to the human figure. Skills in understanding and recording, proportion, gesture and three-dimensional structure enhanced through the informed use of line and tone. An extended range of drawing materials are introduced to assist students in defining their individual responses to the figure. The application of the human figure to the design of forms, is analysed in relation to specific two and three-dimensional formats.
