Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to achieve design solutions for projects which integrate technical factors and cultural issues, as well as human and social requirements; resolve the contrasting pressures on the design with an aesthetic of holistic integrity; defend their designs on practical, symbolic, aesthetic and ethical grounds.

Synopsis This subject and DGN2103 are the key subjects for developing design research and practice capabilities. In this subject the focus is on mastering the detail of user, technical, and construction requirements. In addition, the social context of design is extensively considered, including the cultural and ethical expectations. A critical view of designing is fostered throughout.

Assessment Projects: 90% - Verbal and written presentations: 10%
