Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be aware of historical changes in attitude to conservation and restoration of architectural glass; appreciate current issues in conservation and restoration practice; be able to investigate restoration projects using appropriate research methodologies; have a broad knowledge of modern techniques for restoration of glass.
Synopsis This subject is an introduction to conservation and restoration of glass, particularly stained glass and provides a foundation for further specialisation at higher degree level. The seminar program introduces students to general conservation (including restoration) principles and guidelines as well as their relevance to architectural glass. Current issues are critically analysed and students investigate and report on restoration sites. Studio sessions encourage practical application of the theoretical content of the course.
