Women in engineering
With women making up over 16 per cent of students enrolled in
engineering courses at Monash University, the Women in Engineering Project has
two main aims:
- to increase the awareness of professional engineering as a rewarding
career option for women; and
- to provide support for women students enrolled in engineering courses to
ensure that their studies are both enjoyable and successful.
The project
provides services to school-age girls, their parents and teachers by promoting
professional engineering and encouraging students to study the required
mathematics and science prerequisites.
The project operates on all three campuses and its activities for current
engineering students include a mentor scheme, orientation lunches, social
functions, seminars and a newsletter. The project provides opportunities for
students to form networks with other women within the faculty.
