Advanced contemporary psychology II

Objectives On the completion of this subject students will have an understanding of theoretical and philosophical issues in the discipline of psychology; will have an appreciation of research and professional ethics; and will understand essential concepts and critical findings in a range of areas of contemporary psychology.
Synopsis This subject is designed for students who want to continue their studies in psychology at third-year level but who do not want an accredited major in psychology or entry to honours. Its aim is to give an account at an advanced level of selected topics in contemporary psychology for students majoring in other disciplines. The subject includes three 12-13 lecture core units on (i) abnormal psychology; (ii) group and individual differences in personality and intelligence; and (iii) advanced cognitive science. In addition there are two 6-7 lecture core units on (iv) history and philosophy of psychology and (v) the ethics of research and professional practice. As well as the four lectures there will be a 1-hour tutorial per week.
