Geographical survey and analysis

Objectives This subject sets out to provide students with a set of skills relating to research methodology; observational and measurement techniques; data compilation; analytical methods and interpretive and critical report writing.
Synopsis The subject will focus on concepts including the nature of geographical and environmental data; samples and sampling; descriptive statistics; comparative statistics; relationships and trends; and spatial statistics. Throughout the subject students will make use of computer spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and geographical information system (GIS) applications for the analysis and presentation of data.
Assessment Written (1500 words): 40% * Oral presentation (10 minutes 10% * Examinations (45 minutes): 20% * Practical work: 30%
