Objectives On the completion of this subject students will understand the principles of planning a career in psychology, including the writing of a curriculum vitae and an awareness of career options; understand the mechanisms of commencing and maintaining a private practice; be aware of legal, ethical, and professional issues; know about resources available to a professional psychologist.
Synopsis Central theme: professional development. Topics include career planning; the selection interview; the curriculum vitae; conducting a meeting; postgraduate and career options; psychologists' reports; negotiation; legal ethical and professional issues affecting psychological practice. Other professional issues as suggested in class.
Assessment Multiple-choice test: 40% * Seminar presentation: 30% * Essay: 30%.
