Objectives On successful completion of the subject the student should be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge-base in relation to the research process; explore quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including statistical analysis; demonstrate an ability to critically analyse nursing research literature; select the appropriate method of analysing data; analyse a nursing research methodological issue.
Synopsis This subject builds on prior undergraduate studies in research. The research process and both qualitative and quantitative methodologies will be explored in greater depth. Students will be provided with a solid foundation in research so that they are able to critique and utilise nursing research and have an appropriate research knowledge base to develop a research proposal.
Assessment Essay: 40% * Critique of research methodology (oral) 30% * Examination: 30%
