Advanced clinical practice 1

36 hours lecture * 36 hours clinical over 9 to 12 weeks * 20 hours field experience over 2 weeks * First semester * MMC Clayton

Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student driven activities, it is expected that students will demonstrate integration of in-depth knowledge of a range of acute and chronic illnesses, and relevant nursing concepts; solve complex nursing problems involving high technology interventions, patient education and changes in lifestyle and community referrals; independently manage a caseload on a medical, surgical or diagnostic ward/unit of patients undergoing complex high technology medical therapies; demonstrate a collaborative relationship with other health care providers and consumers in planning and delivering comprehensive health care from preadmission to post-discharge; demonstrate clinical leadership by functioning as a clinical resource and nursing consultant in the management of patient care.

Synopsis The subject provides an in-depth examination of nursing theraputics employed in the care of clients with serious illness. A major emphasis is placed on the introduction of role, conceptions and skills central to advanced nursing practice
