24 hours lectures * 24 hours clinical over 6 weeks * 96 hours field experience over 6 weeks * Second semester * Prerequisite: CNS6403 (Perioperative nursing of adults and children) * MMC Clayton
Objectives Classroom, laboratory and clinically based learning activities are expected to enable students to demonstrate preoperative education and assessment of patients undergoing orthopaedic, ENT, plastic and neuro surgery; postoperative assessment, evaluation, and discharge planning for these patients.
Synopsis Students will learn theoretical and clinical concepts of orthopaedic, `ear, nose and throat' (ENT), plastic and neuro surgical intervention in adults and children. They will utilise knowledge of the nursing process, anatomy and pathophysiology in order to assess the needs of the individual surgical patient. Students will have the opportunity to consolidate cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills required to perform nursing practices within the perioperative environment.
Assessment A case study, and by clinical performance standards.
