Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student driven activities, this subject will enable students to identify, develop and apply appropriate nursing therapeutics to a range of health breakdowns seen in the emergency setting; demonstrate knowledge of safe emergency nursing practice, relevant demographic, psychosocial and legal variables; demonstrate problem identification and problem solving abilities in implementing nursing care, patient teaching and/or referral; develop increased communication and interpersonal skills in caring for patients, their significant others and members of the multi-disciplinary health team; evaluate self performance in terms of the delivery of quality nursing care; appreciate the multicultural health care concerns within the Australian population.
Synopsis This subject will further develop understanding of an ability to perform therapeutic emergency nursing care. A range of patient problems likely to present in the emergency environment is explored. The opportunity to consolidate emergency nursing practice is provided within the course.
Assessment An examination, a case analysis and presentation, and by clinical performance standards.
