Acute care in the community: Rural and remote care

6 points * 5 hours per week * Second semester * Prerequisites: NUR2103, NUR2113, NUR2104, NUR2105, NUR3106, NUR2303, NUR2304, NUR3305

Objectives On completion of this subject the student should be able to describe trends in health care leading to the expansion of home health care for the acutely ill client across the lifespan; apply a clinical reasoning process to management of clients across the lifespan who are cared for in the home environment; choose and implement appropriate, culturally relevant, nursing interventions within a collaborative model which focuses on the person; identify issues pertinent to home health care.

Synopsis This subject prepares the student to care for clients who are acutely ill but are not within the traditional hospital environment. Studies will be undertaken in relation to care of clients who may be nursed in the home and who may live in a regional or a rural/remote area.

Assessment Written assignment: 50% * Presentation: 50%
