Nursing practice 7: Community nursing

6 points * 5 hours per week (lectures, tutorials, labs) plus 75 hours clinical * Second semester * Gippsland and Peninsula * Prerequistes: NUR2103, NUR2113, NUR2104, NUR2303, NUR2304, NUR3305, NUR2201

Objectives On completion of this subject it is expected that students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of lifestyle challenges faced by individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, and chronic mental or physical illnesses; examine the services and support that are necessary to promote home based management of these challenges; explore the issues that affect funding and provision of services for these individuals across the lifespan; demonstrate increased interpersonal, teaching and care planning skills to creatively and sensitively address the needs of individuals and groups for these situations; develop an awareness of the need for, and management of, interdisciplinary interventions; expand knowledge and understanding of ethical and legal questions in health care provision; demonstrate safe clinical practice based on sound theoretical knowledge.

Synopsis This subject extends prior learning to include the development of capabilities for competent nurse practice in community settings for the care of individuals and groups. This subject studies home based management of illness and disability and health promotion and maintenance of persons across the lifespan.

Assessment Assignment: 50% * Lab/clinical assessment: pass/fail * Project: 50%
