Objectives On completion of this subject the student should be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of the structure and function of the reproductive system in both the male and female, and the mechanisms by which the reproductive system is controlled; apply the basic principles of genetics to human inheritance while identifying major mutational and chromosomal abnormalities; describe the internal environment as maintained in healthy individuals for adequate body function; compare the homeostatic processes for maintaining the constancy of the internal environment in relation to the control of blood pressure; identify the responses of the body to adverse environmental conditions; apply knowledge and understanding of the concepts basic to the maintenance of homeostasis to assist in solving clinical nursing and health problems.
Synopsis The structure and function of the human body. This subject is the third in a sequence of four subjects (GAS1118, GAS2117, GAS2118 and GAS3117). Topics covered include reproduction, the cardiovascular system and electrolytes.
Assessment Laboratory work: 30% * Examinations: 70% * To obtain a pass in this subject, a pass must be achieved in both the practical and theory components.
