Master of Surgery

General information

The degree of Master of Surgery shall be awarded for an original contribution of merit adding to the knowledge and understanding of surgery.

A candidate shall submit a thesis supported by published work, if any, or published work alone which he or she desires to have examined.

The degree incurs a fee of $2500 payable at the time of submission of the thesis/published works.

Qualifications for admission

A candidate for the degree of Master of Surgery shall:

(a) not less than five years prior to applying for admission to candidature have qualified for the degree of Bachelor of Surgery at this university or Bachelor of Surgery in another university recognised by the faculty board and, unless the faculty board resolves otherwise, have held an appointment in the university for a period of not less than two years; and

(b) since qualifying for the degree of Bachelor of Surgery have been substantially engaged in the practice and study of surgery or in scientific work which, in the opinion of the faculty board is relevant to the practice of surgery.

Doctor of Medicine

General information

The degree of Doctor of Medicine shall be awarded for an original contribution of merit adding to the knowledge and understanding of any subject with which the Faculty of Medicine is directly concerned. The degree may be awarded on the basis of a thesis or on the basis of published works.

The degree incurs a fee of $2500 payable at the time of submission of the thesis/published works.

Qualifications for admission

A candidate for the degree of Doctor of Medicine shall:

(a) not less than five years previously to an application for admission to candidature have qualified for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine at this university or Bachelor of Medicine in another university recognised by the Academic Board and, unless the Faculty of Medicine resolves otherwise, have held an appointment with a department of the university for a period of not less than two years; and

(b) have been substantially engaged, during the interval since qualifying for the degree of bachelor, in the practice and study of medicine or in scientific work which, in the opinion of the Faculty of Medicine, is relevant to the practice of medicine.
