Basic and clinical pharmacology and toxicology I
Associate Professor R G King (Pharmacology)
Objectives On completion of the unit, students should (1) know the core material essential for understanding the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics; and (2) be able to apply that knowledge to assist understanding of drug actions and interactions.
Synopsis This subject presents the core material essential for development of the general principles of pharmacology. Emphasis is on mechanisms of drug-receptor interactions and on pharmacokinetics. Where appropriate, prototype drugs in current use will be discussed to illustrate concepts and principles. The material will be reinforced in MED3042 (Basic and clinical pharmacology and toxicology II) and in other subjects in which specific drugs are discussed.
Assessment As for MED3042
